Cambodia all but out of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

BREAKING NEWS : Manama, 7 June 2021: Mathematically, it’s all over for Cambodia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The national team was thumped 4-1 by Iraq on Monday night in Bahrain. The Arabs dominated throughout the 90 minutes, despite Cambodia’s consolation goal.

The Lions of Mesopotamia quickly pressed Cambodia into a defensive position and within only 20 seconds, had scored their first goal. It was a costly wake-up call for Cambodia, who lost 8-0 to Bahrain last week and had the smallest of hopes of making it through to the next round of Asian qualifiers.

Iraq remained very much in control of possession and continued to keep the Cambodian backline busy throughout the game, locking in the final result of 4-1, to retake the top spot of Group C.

Cambodia’s national team is looking on the bright side, saying they did not expect to score a goal and for this they are happy and optimistic about their final match on Friday against Iran and ending their World Cup qualifying campaign on a positive note.
